May 2 is the anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death at the Château du Clos Lucé in 1519. This date has been chosen by the State, the Centre-Val de Loire Region and the Leonardian sites as the date for the launch of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the Renaissance in the Loire Valley, the Leonardo da Vinci Year (national celebration in Italy) and the 500th anniversary of Chambord.
On this occasion, the President of the French Republic will welcome the President of the Italian Republic on a State visit on Thursday, May 2. They will go to the royal castle of Amboise, Le Clos Lucé and Chambord.
Also the castle and the national estate of Chambord will exceptionally be closed to the public on that day (from midnight to midnight).
Road traffic within the estate will be prohibited from midnight to midnight.
All recreational activities (horse and bird of prey show, carriage ride, electric cart rental, etc.) will likewise be suspended on 2 May.
The château will reopen on Friday 3 May at 9 A.M.
