MAJOR EVENTS IN 2024

From the outset, Chambord has been dedicated to the arts: ever since it was built by Francis I, numerous artists have come to take part in the court festivities and entertainments given by the king. This tradition has continued ever since, with the various sovereigns and personalities who have left their mark on the site.

In keeping with this artistic and festive tradition, the Domaine National de Chambord has been offering an ambitious cultural program since 2010, focusing on the three major cultural fields of the Renaissance: text, music and the fine arts, to which dance has been added this year.

Artists who have exhibited at Chambord since 2010 include Georges Rousse, Bae Bien-U, Paul Rebeyrolle, Lydie Arickx, Djamel Tatah, Philippe Cognée, Lionel Sabatté, Alexandre Hollan, Jérôme Zonder and Pablo Reinoso.

Festive and musical events also punctuate the year, continuing to make Chambord a place of jubilation and artistic creation.

EXHIBITIONS

Dehors Dedans” exhibition by Julien des Monstiers, May 26 – November 3 2024

Following exhibitions by Lionel Sabatté in 2023 and Wang Keping until March 17, 2024, the Domaine national de Chambord invites artist Julien des Monstiers for a residency starting in April, followed by an exhibition from May 26 to November 3, 2024.

Considered to be the new genius of contemporary painting, Julien des Monstiers works on his canvases using the transfer technique: he paints his drawings on a tracing paper, then presses the still-fresh paint onto his canvases in an incessant back-and-forth process. Some thirty works, half of them produced for the exhibition, will be presented at Chambord, engaging in a close dialogue with the monument and its history.

Chambord and us, until June 2024

In 2023, over 1,000 photographs and dozens of personal accounts have been collected from residents of the Communauté de communes du Grand Chambord, illustrating the close and diverse ties that bind the region to “its” monument. The traveling exhibition Chambord et nous highlights the richness of the moments lived in Chambord: weddings, births, family reunions, work in the fields, fishing in a pond, official visits, hunting in the forest… It will make a stop at Chambord on June 1, 2024.

D’un regard à l’autre: dans les jardins du parasport, from July 8 to September 8, 2024

As part of the Cultural Olympiad, the Domaine national de Chambord is hosting a photographic exhibition linked to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Photographer Jacques Cohen’s aim is to shine a spotlight on anyone with a visible or invisible disability. Called D’un regard à l’autre, this series of 50 portraits, which will be exhibited on the large south parterre facing the monument, is a look at disabled and adapted sport, as well as inclusive disability in society and institutions.
