Pupils analyse how the landscape has changed over the centuries by comparing different maps of the Estate. Making their way through the forest, they decipher various landscapes by looking to see how man has shaped it.
ObjectiveUnderstand that the landscape usually changes because of human touch.
Programme
- Inside: By comparing maps of the Estate down the ages, pupils identify the main areas of vegetation to determine what main activities were carried in the park and how these have changed over the centuries.
- In the field, equipped with an IGN (National Geographic Institute) map that they must use to find their way, pupils are taken to various places in search of different clues that the landscape has changed.
- In teams along a marked footpath, pupils look at different wooded plots and try to reveal man’s hand at work and the intended purposes.
