Pupils acquaint themselves with the pond’s origins, formation and functions. They collect as many of its aquatic plants and invertebrates as they can, and then name them with the help of determination keys.

Programme
- Fieldwork: pupils familiarise themselves with the pond by finding out about how it works, the history of ponds in Sologne, and fish farming. They then draw the pond in situ.
- Pupils inventory the main plantlife to be found at the water’s edge and in the water itself, and analyse their adaptation to the milieu.
- Pupils fish for the pond’s microfauna, and study the main groups of animals collected.
Excursion by bicycle if desired.
