Sound and Light Shows – a Chambord tradition

From June to September, the National Estate of Chambord will be presenting nightly performances of its latest sound and light show, “Chambord, Rêve de Lumières”.
Projected upon the château’s famous north façade, it will whisk you away to Renaissance days, where you will become spectators at the vast fortress-like construction site of a monument that was to become a regular stop-off in the itinerary of François I’s travelling court – hunting lodge and scene of sumptuous receptions and balls…
Chambord relives its glory days before your very eyes …

Built in 1519 for King François I, the Château of Chambord has never ceased to fascinate by reason of its extraordinary opulence and symbolic value. This royal hunting lodge, bearing witness to the pomp and splendour to which the victor of Marignan was accustomed, is located in the heart of a forest estate as large as Paris, enclosed within a 32km-long wall and making up a truly remarkable piece of historical, architectural and natural heritage, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage “living cultural landscape” site for over 25 years. It was with the idea of adding to its magnificence that, on 30 May 1952, the world’s very first sound and light show was presented there, a perfect symbiosis between Art and History. The public flocked to the event, which marked the beginnings of an altogether new concept that went on to enjoy a success that needs no introduction.

Over fifty years after “Les Très Riches Heures de Chambord”, which was followed by such other innovative shows as “Le Combat du Jour et de la Nuit” and “Les Métamorphoses”, the National Estate of Chambord plans to present a powerful and original new show that will go down in its history. The latest project aims to highlight the essence of this remarkable site through an innovative artistic creation of international scope. It has been designed for all ages and cultures, French and foreign alike, using the most universal means of expression – music, dance and images – to create a show that will bring pleasure to one and all.
