This painting is the copy of a work by Baron François Gérard, a full-length portrait of Duke Charles-Ferdinand de Berry, younger son of King Charles X and father to the count of Chambord. Richly attired in a long white mantle with gold braiding, he also wears the collars of the Orders of the Holy Spirit and Saint Michel. He is positioned by a bust of Henri IV to indicate his relationship with the famous king, and so to testify to the longevity of the Bourbon family.
