Games from the 16th to the 18th century

From 30 November, visitors can learn about the games and entertainments enjoyed by sovereigns and the court in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Fans of the Grand Siècle can try their hand at trou-madame, a game that was very fashionable during the reign of Louis XIV. For fans of more traditional games, goose, draughts and fox are available to the public.

The games are open to the public from 30 November.

Renaissance activities at weekends before school holidays

The ‘Cléry Son Histoire en Lumière’ association is offering an immersion into the festivities of the Renaissance:

Strolling around the castle in Renaissance costume on the ground, 1st and 2nd floors.
Continuous ancient games in the hunting room on the ground floor
Medieval and Renaissance dances, at 2pm and 3pm (duration: 20 min) in the François I canton on the 2nd floor of the castle
Demonstrations of knightly combat in the formal gardens – at 4pm (subject to clement weather, failing which a new round of dances will be scheduled on the 2nd floor of the château)
Presentation of weapons and armour, in the Théâtre de Molière bras de croix Est on the 1st floor of the château

30 November, 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15 December from 2pm to 4:45pm.

Entertainment on the theme of ‘La Régence’ organised by Midnight Première

Artistic fencing workshop by Lagardère: Cédric Chavin, Portos’ understudy in the film The Three Musketeers and an actor and stuntman, leads fencing workshops for young and old on “La botte de Nevers”, a combination of fencing moves invented by Paul Féval, author of the book The Hunchback.

Baroque music concert by the Giourdina trio: Three musicians playing on period instruments (flute, oboe, bassoon and percussion) present a programme based on early 18th-century French music, entitled Fastes et divertissement à la Cour du Régent.

Falconry show in the French gardens: Louis-François Dauvet, Marquis de Desmarets The Regent of France’s master falconer and his assistant present birds of prey used for hunting in 18th-century France. This interactive show is presented by Passion de Roy, whose mission is to raise public awareness of the need to protect species of birds of prey and preserve the ancestral art of falconry.
