Pupils compare soil and subsoil, and analyse the organic matter. They capture the main species of invertebrates and examine them under binocular magnifiers, classifying them with the help of determination keys.
ObjectiveAn introduction to the great natural cycles, and to the understanding of natural recycling mechanisms.
Programme
- Working on a seam in an opencast quarry, pupils research materials making up the subsoil.
- Through meticulous prospection in soil residues, they collect the tiny organisms that live there.
- Back in the classroom, they classify their finds, and examine the microorganisms through binocular magnifiers.
