Visits for disabled people

The National Estate of Chambord implements a cultural accessibility policy with disabled people especially in mind. Here is a review of site access and range of cultural activities and tailored services.

Guide dogs accompanying disabled people are permitted within the monument.

Déficience Visuelle

By appointment

  • tours with special media (guided tours, lectures),
  • heritage workshops for school children: discovery of construction materials, tactile recognition, reading of relief and carved décor…
  • tactile model of the Château that can be dismantled.

Unaccompanied tour

  • lapidary repository is freely accessible, where pieces of carved décor have been preserved during restoration work. These pieces of sculpture are available for a tactile assessment of relief.

  • lectures and heritage workshops are given in French sign language, booking recommended 2 months in advance.
  • tour brochures are available in English and French from reception.

Site accessibility

  • reserved spaces in the car park,
  • road suitable for wheelchairs on the same level as the car park right up to the Château (approx. 400m), as well as around the Château,
  • access to the ground floor of the Château, the bookshop, the lapidary repository and coach room, as well as the cafeteria,
  • overall, a quarter of the tour circuit is accessible to people in wheelchairs.


Tour comfort

  • chairs and benches in the Château and in the surroundings,
  • wheelchair loan from the Château reception (and the kiosque on Place Saint-Louis in the summer),
  • specially adapted washrooms (on Place Saint Louis and in the Château courtyard),

Services available

  • architectural and historical presentation tour in English and in French, entirely accessible from the courtyard, (contact reception for the set-off time,
  • gift and bookshop on the ground floor of the Château.
Déficience Mentale

By appointment

  • special tour of the Château,
  • fun tour: an anonymous witness of the good old days at the Château (court jester, architect, clock-maker or equerry for example) acts out his memories with help from participants,
  • heritage workshops: the full and varied programme of educational activities can be tailored to the expectations of specialist educators and teachers. Please contact us to adapt the workshop most appropriately together with the educational department.
